FAQ

What is the purpose of the Ku-ring-gai Phoenix partnership?

This partnership gives our players the chance to develop and compete at a higher level while staying connected to their home club. It helps us keep talented players in the community by offering a strong alternative to big development programs—without losing the values, culture and support that make our club special.

Players can enjoy a premium football experience, more competitive games, and better development pathways, all while staying local and staying part of a community‑focused club. It truly offers the best of both worlds.

Why the name 'Ku-ring-gai Phoenix'?

The name Ku‑ring‑gai Phoenix was chosen through a member‑driven process aimed at creating a sense of local excitement and a distinctive identity that players would feel proud to represent. A shortlist of names was developed and put to a community vote, with Ku‑ring‑gai Phoenix FC emerging as the clear favourite.

The Phoenix carries particular significance for the partnership. Each of the foundation clubs has a winged mascot, and the Phoenix symbolises those clubs rising together as one—stronger, united and focused on creating new opportunities for local players. The name reflects both the ambition of the partnership and the shared heritage of the clubs that underpin it

Which age groups will Phoenix participate in?

In 2027, Phoenix FC will focus on the following age groups and divisions:

  • U8–U11 — JDL

  • G10–G11 — Girls JDL

  • G12 — Diamond League

  • U12, U13 and U15 — Development Squads

Note:
The Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA) introduced new Development League regulations in 2026, including defined trial periods, offer windows and single‑club JDL entry. These changes are designed to create a fairer, more transparent and consistent process for all players and families.

Furthermore, NSFA provides JDL club rankings to support competition entry and draw creation, ensuring each team is placed appropriately to maximise player development outcomes.

What happens after the November trials?

Players will be notified within the Trial Offer Window which is between 16th and 26th November regarding their selection status for a Phoenix FC team. In some cases, additional players may be offered positions at a later date if squad vacancies arise. The offer acceptance deadline will be listed in the player offer letter.

For players who are selected, a non‑refundable deposit will be required to secure their place in the team, with the remaining balance payable before the season starts in February.

What kit will Ku-ring-gai Phoenix players wear?

Ku‑ring‑gai Phoenix players will wear our club colours of pink and charcoal, a distinctive palette inspired by the bold style of Inter Miami and chosen to represent pride, passion and ambition. The current playing kit is available to view on the Club Kit page.

What will this cost?

Fees are confirmed in February, before the season begins, and shared with families when player offers are made.

The fee covers the full Phoenix FC program, running from February to September, including two training sessions per week, game-day coaching delivered by our qualified partners at Vision Football, association fees, player insurance, club administration and additional player-development components.

When and where will training be?

Training starts in February and will be at NTRA. Training will be on Mondays and Wednesdays.
The 2026 timing was:

  • U8 & U9: 4:30–5:30pm
  • G10 & G11: 4:30–5:45pm
  • U10, U11 & G12: 5:30–6:45pm
  • U12 & U14: 6:15–7:30pm

Training runs until the end of August, with 2 sessions off in the middle of the school holidays. If multiple training sessions are cancelled due to wet weather, training will be scheduled throughout the school holidays.

What if my child does not make or does not want to trial for a Phoenix Development Team?

Community football will always remain a core focus for our foundation clubs, North Turramurra FC and Gordon FC. We will continue to offer as many teams as possible within our inclusive, community‑based environment—especially for players who simply want to enjoy football with their friends.

If your child does not make, or chooses not to trial for, a Phoenix Development Team, they are warmly encouraged to register for community football as usual. Registrations for both community clubs will open in January.

What if I have more questions?

Ku‑ring‑gai Phoenix FC is jointly operated by the volunteer committees of North Turramurra FC and Gordon FC. As we work through trial logistics and the requirements of a new season, we appreciate your patience and understanding.
